Campaign Time Line<\/strong><\/div>\n

Our goal is to put our Clean Elections Citizen Initiative on the 2020\u00a0general election presidential ballot because this is the biggest voter turn out.\u00a0Getting our measure on this ballot is our best chance to win!<\/strong><\/div>\n
.<\/div>\n
To get our measure on the ballot, we will have to launch a petition drive at some time next year in 2019 and get 70,000+ signatures of registered voters in the City of San Diego.\u00a0 The City of San Diego will give us 6 months to do this.\u00a0\u00a0To be successful, we will have to be well prepared and ready to go on day one!
\n<\/strong><\/div>\n

Our goal for the remainder of 2018 –<\/strong>\u00a0To educate and enroll volunteers who believe in clean elections, who would be willing to carry a petition around with them during the 2019\u00a0six month petition drive and ask people they know\u00a0when they meet them and when it is appropriate<\/strong>, to sign the petition.\u00a0\u00a0Our tentative goal is 500 volunteers and we are now at 195!\u00a0 We are calling this a “Friend to Friend” campaign.<\/strong><\/div>\n

(We will also have a vigorous weekend shopping center volunteer effort during the six-month petition drive in 2019 but this will not be for everyone)<\/div>\n

COALITION UPDATE<\/span><\/div>\n
An essential element of our strategy is to create a coalition of groups who support clean elections. \u00a0We started the coalition with the League of Women Voters, Common Cause, Activist San Diego and our group, Neighborhoods for Clean Elections. \u00a0We have now grown to over 10 groups now participating. \u00a0If you know of a group that might be supportive, please contact John Hartley at 619-299-8870. \u00a0The coalition is now working on who should be responsible for administering a clean elections reform.<\/span><\/div>\n

Another essential element in our campaign will be raising a war chest to both get our citizen’s initiative on the ballot and for waging the resulting campaign against the opposition. July 2017 Update<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Hi Everyone<\/span><\/div>\n
I hope you are having a great summer. \u00a0So far it has been a hot one! \u00a0We are enlarging the campaign with a series of new actions. \u00a0We are creating a new, powerful, \u00a0fundraising campaign, \u00a0we are creating a new meeting for those who want more information on Clean Elections and we are setting up a new phone bank.<\/span><\/div>\n
.<\/span><\/div>\n
WHY THE NEED FOR FUNDRAISING!<\/span><\/div>\n
Part of our critique of our past campaign efforts was that we had to build a bigger and more effective coalition which we have started with the creation of the Clean Elections Coalition. \u00a0We started it by joining with Common Cause, the League of Women Voters and Activist San Diego. \u00a0Since then we have been joined by a number of volunteers from various community groups and if you know of an organization that might be interested, please contact us.<\/span>\u00a0But the other area where we saw that we needed to expand our effort dramatically, was in fundraising. We need to build a large war chest to help us get over the top in signatures and in the following campaign once we are on the ballot.<\/span><\/div>\n

COUNT ME IN!<\/span><\/div>\n
So,we have come up with a monthly PAY PAL campaign which we are calling,\u00a0COUNT ME IN<\/span>! \u00a0where we ask supporters of campaign finance reform or Clean Elections, for the city of San Diego, to sign up on our web page, to contribute $10 a month to our campaign through Pay Pal<\/span>. \u00a0We choose ten dollars because we have found that it is a small, almost forgettable amount which almost all of us can easily afford. \u00a0It might not seem adequate for what we need to accomplish but the strength of our appeal counts on the support of a large amount of volunteers. \u00a0But for every 100 volunteers who contribute $10 a month, we raise $1,000 for that month!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0And the small individual request fits in with our support of public funding of elections.<\/span><\/div>\n

SO WE ASK YOU<\/span><\/div>\n

WHAT IS A COFFEE KLATCH!<\/span><\/div>\n
We are setting up a monthly Coffee Klatch for those of you who might want more information on Clean Elections. \u00a0The term coffee klatch comes from Germany and implies getting together to “gossip.” \u00a0We see it as an informal way to meet, talk,\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

\nOur campaign is starting to build some steam. Building a strong coalition is getting off the ground. Our organizing work with the Neighborhood Empowerment Alliance is beginning to take shape and there seems to be heightened interest everywhere in people wanting to take action, be heard and make a difference.
